Isolated from other centres of carpet and rug weaving by hundreds of miles, Kerman is situated in a desolate area in south-east Iran. Numerous villages in the surrounding area also produce rugs, all of which are labelled Kerman. Kerman rugs are extremely beautiful. They are predominantly floral, often with a double central medallion. It is common to find Kerman carpets woven on red grounds. The motives used on the medallion are often used in the corner and in the border. Pastel shades are popular.
