This is an extraordinarily beautiful and very large handmade Persian Tabriz carpet. It is 4 meters by 3.05 meters in size.
The motif of the carpet at the center is an ocular shape. It looks like the human eye, and there is a drop north and south of it. If you look closely at the patterns contained within the inner guard border, the extraordinary thing is that they are the same repeated patterns. What has happened, though, is that they have a change in color, and this provides them with a sharp contrast and seemingly a notion that they are different motifs, but they are not at all.
What is interesting is that the central medallion is very much like a Russian doll. You have one pattern contained within the next pattern, and that is expanding out. In total, there are four of these ‘dolls’, if you like, and the inner pattern is a shade of rose pink that is beautifully harmonized with the next pattern, which is a sandy color that then becomes more of a gray-green, which then becomes a gray color at the very outer band of that motif. Those exact same colors appear in each of the four spandrels in that arrangement, with the inner corner band being the same as the very center of the central medallion Russian doll.
