Persian Tabriz Kourk Mahi Design
Stock No. SY-141-000827
Size(m): 3.58×3.04
This is a magnificent Tabriz Kourk mahi design carpet. It has a central medallion with a drop either side, north and south. The patterns contained within the carpet are beautiful, and there is almost a suggestion that because of the bands and the palmette shapes surrounding the periphery of each band, of there being a tidal movement, and that they are simply bands of water, or if you like, you could look at the centre of the central medallion, it satellites out from one band to the next, becoming bigger and bigger, until it is ovocular in shape. It looks like the human eye, and this is contained within a magnificent field that has a soft, gentle grey colour. As one moves out of the field towards the inner guard borders, there are further bands. In total, there are four of these bands, and they are various colours, and again you have the sense of movement, perhaps of water, and this is a lovely association because the word mahi, which is used to describe this carpet, in respect to which you see many such motifs within the carpet, means fish.
The carpet itself is contained with very well-defined guard borders, and the inner and outer guard borders mirror each other, so that there is a parallel framing of the main guard border, which has beautiful colours, which appear also in other places of the carpet.
This carpet would be a magnificent central feature of any room, requiring a statement of extreme luxury and much beauty.
