This Qum silk carpet is a wonderful balance of subtle colours and complex design that results in a most restful rich carpet. It has a central medallion that appears in a field containing an abundance of floral motifs. The field is spectacularly beautiful, containing motifs all resting together and suggesting eternity - where is the beginning and where is the end? The darker colours present in the main border provides much needed definition and power to what might otherwise be a chaotic field. The exuberance of the field needs to be so contained to provide the necessary balance and peacefulness that makes this carpet so special. Because the main border also contains floral motifs and the herati pattern that is present in the field there is also a great sense of completeness and balance thereby imparted.
