Hamadan rugs are made in the city of Hamadan and the surrounding area. Perhaps the most important centre of rug meeting in Iran, situated in the north-west of the Irain plateau. The term Hamadan, however, is applied to rugs from the wide area around the town. Because the rugs are drawn from such a wide area they can be extremely varied in design. They are very hard wearing and generally of good quality.
