Persian Isfahan Silk Found
Stock No. ME-110-000375
Size(m): 2.30×1.52
This is an extraordinarily beautiful handmade rug from the city of Isfahan. It has a silk foundation and it measures 2.3 by 1.52 meters. The rug itself has a very orthodox appearance in the sense that there is a magnificent proportion and balance to its design. It is a central medallion design. It has no drops as such, though the extension of the design does take you into the main field of the carpet, that is, if you look at the central medallion, it has a very clear trace outline that is achieved not by a drawing of an outline as such, but by the absence of any color in the periphery of that central rosette shape. There is one exception north and south, and that is the movement from the medallion itself into the field of the carpet, and this movement extends the eye into the more complex world of the main field of the carpet, and it is a magnificent extension and world that we're invited to view. The field of the carpet has a beautiful red base color, which appears very much as the color of the outer guard border. There is in the main guard border the appearance of red again at well-spaced intervals by way of color of a motif that appears to be a lattice-style tracery. The design of the rug is most spectacularly beautiful, and the inclusion of the color blue is significant. If one looks closely, you see at the very center a dot or a spot that does have a blue hue to it. Moving out, we have golds combining with then a circle that is a complete shape in itself, but composed of smaller motifs in a blue color. This fans out into a flower shape, which has a lovely ochre gold color to it, and then it goes further outward and is contained then by an orbit of satellites that are linked together. These motifs are blue in color, and blue, of course, is an important color in the design of Persian carpets. The central medallion further expands into a more free-flowing combination of motifs, which are contained in that space of an empty base color that provides the circular shape that is so natural and beautiful in the context of this carpet. The main field of the carpet has a large number of Mahi-style motifs, and there is a beautiful arabesque pattern to it. There are beautiful colors in the spandrels of this carpet, which appear in a lighter density with regard to the Mahi pattern in the field. The complex pattern of the carpet and the various motifs are combined seamlessly together to provide massive beauty and balance. This carpet will look extraordinarily beautiful in any room that requires a statement of elegance and clearly is the work of genius. Purchase it today with complete confidence.
The inclusion of the color blue is significant, starting with a central dot that emanates a blue hue and expanding into intricate motifs. Gold tones merge with a complete circle composed of smaller blue motifs, eventually blossoming into a flower shape contained by an orbit of linked blue satellites.
In Persian carpet design, the color blue holds profound cultural significance, often conveying symbolic meanings deeply rooted in tradition and cultural history. Here’s an interpretation of the blue elements in the described Persian carpet:
1.Blue is traditionally associated with the heavens and the divine in Persian culture. The use of light blue in the perimeters of the main guard border reflects a connection to celestial elements, symbolizing the infinite and divine nature of the universe.
2.Blue is also linked to spirituality and tranquility. Incorporating light blue in the carpet design may evoke a sense of calmness and inner peace, creating a harmonious atmosphere within the space.
The serpent-like shape moving throughout the main guard border, especially in blue tones, could signify protection. In Persian culture, serpents are sometimes associated with guarding against evil forces, making the use of blue in this context a symbolic shield.
Darker blue shapes, particularly when intertwined with vines, may symbolize the eternal nature of life and continuity. Blue is often associated with the endless expanse of the sky and the perpetuity of existence.
It is the defining characteristic of this carpet that the blue combines so nicely with the sandy yellow colours contained in the central medallion, the tendrils and the outer guard border. These are beautifully complemented and contrasted with the green colours and the aquamarine turquoise colours and the various other shades of blue in the carpet.
The impact of this carpet is one of clever design, harmony and unity. It would look sensational as a centrepiece or an accent point in a large room, or indeed, in a smaller room, it would set the tone with regard to the decor of that room. It is a beautiful combination of colours, it is very refined with its muted shades of turquoise, teal and blues, and the combination of the sand colours and gold suggests the beauty of the sand and the ocean and the sky. These are things that touch our hearts and become important when we want to relax, and this carpet is very good for the relaxation of the mind and the resting of the soul.
