Kashan carpets are made in the town of Kashan and its surrounding villages, situated 150 miles south of Tehran, it is one of the hottest areas of Iran, being just on the edge of the Salt Desert. Water is very scarce. They've been carpets made in Kasshahan as far back as the 16th century. The wool of the early carpets are noted for their smooth velvety quality. Carpets from Kashan are highly treasured and are usually of a high quality.
