The city of Shiraz is situated in the south of Iran is the capital of the Fars province. Today no carpets or rugs are made in Shiraz itself. The carpets are made by tribes from the surrounding areas and are marketed in the bazaar in Shiraz. These tribes include Qashqa’i, Ainalu, Baharlu, Keshkuli and Farsimadan. The designs are simple, geometric and bold. The characteristic design, the trademark of Shiraz, is the diamond lozenge employed either on its own or in a series of two or three down the centre of the rug.
