This is a spectacular Tabriz village rug. It measures 1.7 by 1.1 meters. It is a central medallion carpet that has an amalgam of the most beautiful arrangements and assortments of motifs together with variations in color. The central medallion develops into shape expanding outwards. It is a flower which, whilst symmetrical, is composed of different size petals.
The center is a very dark center and then the petals are red in color with an outline of white tracing. This sits in an ocular shape defined by a very thin red margin which makes it very much like an eye. From that central flower there are however two extensions, one north and one south. The center of the extension is blue and on either side is brown color. The eye shape color sits then within a further motif and this motif has a variety of outline tracings including a most beautiful and vibrant yellow which occurs again in the carpet at various spots particularly as flowers in the main field of the carpet and also in one or two spots in one of the guard borders providing a continuation or balance within the carpet essentially giving it harmony.
The carpet itself is not spectacularly large. It in fact is a most useful size and would suit many interiors where an accent point is required. An interesting aspect of this carpet is that the guard borders are pretty much the same as far as the width of each of the borders. There are three borders which are significant as far as their widths are concerned. Often we find in Persian carpets that there is a central main guard border but this is not the case here.
What is interesting is that there are a lot of flowers in the guard border and that they vary in color. This gives the carpet spectacular beauty and interest. It invites the viewer to consider the enormity of the seasons of the year and the promise of regeneration and rebirth and new beginnings that come from spring.
The carpet itself has the inclusion of a red base color in the main field of the carpet and also spectacularly elsewhere in the motifs of the carpet including those that are in the guard borders.
