Persian Tabriz Superfine
Stock No. SY-142-000424
Size(m): 2.94×2.04
This is a handmade carpet made from superfine wool, and it is characterised by a massive number of the most extraordinarily beautiful flowers. It appears to be a combination of roses and probably every other flower that you could imagine. The flowers present themselves throughout the carpet. It has at its centre a circular shape, very much like what one would describe as a rosette shape, and then there are four drops, northeast and south and west, and the ones going longitudinally are somewhat more elongated, but the ones east and west are the most beautiful arrangement of flowers. Flowers are everywhere, including in the main field of the carpet, in the spandrels, and in the borders, and the most beautiful arrangements of colour from red, pinks, lavender, yellows, and even shades of brown and green.
The depiction of an extensive variety of extraordinarily beautiful flowers throughout a carpet, particularly one centered around a rosette shape with additional floral drops extending in the cardinal directions, carries deep symbolic and aesthetic significance. In the realm of carpet design, especially those hailing from regions with rich traditions in carpet weaving like Persia (Iran), Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, flowers are not mere decorative elements but convey layers of meaning and cultural heritage.
Symbolic Significance
- Universal Symbols of Beauty and Nature: Flowers are universally recognized symbols of beauty, nature's splendor, and the cycle of life. Their inclusion in carpet designs often reflects a desire to bring the natural world into the home, creating a sense of harmony, tranquility, and connection to the earth.
- Spiritual and Religious Connotations: Many flowers have specific meanings in different cultural and religious contexts. For example, roses often symbolize love, beauty, and the divine in both Western and Eastern traditions. The presence of such a wide variety of flowers could symbolize a garden of paradise, an idea found in Islamic art that represents divine beauty and the infinite.
- Artistic Expression and Regional Identity: The variety and arrangement of flowers can also signify the artistic creativity of the weaver or the design traditions of a specific region. Certain flowers and colors may be characteristic of the area's natural flora or carry particular local meanings, thus embedding the carpet with a sense of place and identity.
Aesthetic Significance
- Visual Complexity and Depth: The elaborate floral designs, with their varied colors and forms, create a rich visual tapestry that draws the viewer in. This complexity not only showcases the weaver's skill but also offers an aesthetic experience that changes and deepens upon closer inspection.
- Harmony and Balance: The strategic placement of flowers, especially around a central rosette and along the cardinal points, suggests a universe in miniature, with the carpet serving as a cosmological map. This layout mirrors the balance and symmetry found in nature, inviting a sense of cosmic order into the space.
- Color Palette and Mood: The use of colors ranging from reds, pinks, and lavenders to yellows, browns, and greens can influence the mood of the room. Warm colors like red and yellow may energize a space, while cooler tones like lavender and green create a calming atmosphere. The diverse color scheme allows the carpet to complement a variety of interior styles and color palettes.
In sum, a carpet adorned with an extensive array of flowers is not only a feast for the eyes but also a rich tapestry of symbols and meanings. It reflects the intersection of nature, art, and spirituality, offering a window into the cultural and creative traditions from which it originates. Such a carpet is more than a decorative item; it is a work of art that invites reflection, admiration, and a deeper connection to the natural and spiritual worlds.
This rug is a treasure to be cherished, offering both beauty and warmth to any home it adorns.
